“THE ART OF THE GARDEN”
The 7th Annual House & Garden Tour will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday, June 25, from 10am-4pm. The tour features fine houses and gardens in Norwich, chosen to dazzle and delight!
PLEIN AIR ARTISTS: In a new twist on this popular event, this year local plein air painters will set up their easels in the gardens of these beautiful homes, allowing visitors to see the gardens through the artists’ eyes. 12 artists from the “Odanaksis” artists group will create their art works between 10am and 2:30pm. Their framed works will be offered for sale from 3 – 4 pm that afternoon and through the month of July at the Lewis House, with a portion of the proceeds donated to NHS. See list of artists below.
ART TALK featuring Dan Gottesgen
At noon on the 25th, visitors can take a break and return to Lewis House for a talk about art, artists and gardens by Dan Gottsegen, a Woodstock artist nationally known for his engagement with the natural environment. Gottsegen will illustrate his talk with works from well-known and lesser-known artists, as well as insights into the gardens on this year’s tour. Admission is included in the price of your ticket but seating is limited. Click here to see Dan’s work.
THE TOUR: This year’s tour will feature a range of properties reflecting Norwich’s growth over time. Visitors may want to begin with the extensive gardens at an 1828 brick federal on Elm Street. Norwich’s Bill Noble, who designed the gardens, will be on hand in the morning to chat with visitors about his creation. Garden designer Courtney Dobyns will also be present during the day to talk with guests about the complex of perennial and shade gardens she maintains at a country cape. The gardens at a jewel-box “grandparents’ house” help to integrate it with the attached 1925 Cliff Street bungalow. A newly renovated home in the Willey Hill/Hawk Pine area illustrate the use of gardens in contemporary landscape. And a architect-designed in-town home boasts luscious gardens with extensive borders and hundreds of specimens of flowers.
TICKETS: $25 each for the tour ($20 for members). Tickets are available at the door on the day of show. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. We are no longer accepting credit card payment on-line.
